Asia-Pacific Tennis League (ATL)
Shaw Park Tennis Centre, located on Brisbane’s Northside kicked off this year’s rounds of the Asia Pacific Tennis League. Despite some warm weather, there was a huge turn out to watch some of the best tennis Queensland – if not Australia – has to offer.
Shaw Park Sharks are lucky to headline their teams with some big players this year including James Duckworth, Akira Santillan, Naiktha Bains, Lizette Cabrera and Ashling Sumner. Full team profiles are available on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/ShawParkSharks.
Shaw Park Sharks got off to a great start with both the men’s and women’s team claiming a victory in the first round against Beenleigh Blaze. The men faced a tougher challenge in the second round. They put up a good fight sitting equal with Tennis Brisbane Chargers after their singles rubbers but unfortunately went down after some tight sets of doubles. The women secured yet another win in their second round.
Round three saw the women’s team continue their undefeated streak with a 4-2 victory over Sunshine Coast Breakers. The men’s team won on a count back against the same team, leaving them in good form heading into the final rounds of the competition.
