Experience: 35 years experience teaching some of Queenslands leading junior players of which many have made it to a high level being state nationally and internationally ranked. Also formally successfully ran a tennis coaching business for over 20 years thoughout Brisbane until illness forced a break from the sport and the decision to live a more balanced life these days.

Experience: I gained my fist coaching qualification at the age of 15 and since then have worked up the ranks gaining extensive experience coaching all ages and standards from beginners through to aspiring young players and advanced adult squads. I have managed many club, school and even kindergarten tennis programmes with the focus on growing participation in the sport and increasing opportunities for young talented players to play and compete. I have always seeked out the best coaches to learn from and got jobs at their centres so I could absorb their knowledge…this has always been far more beneficial than even the best of the multitude of courses I have done throughout the years. 

Attributes: 16 years of coaching experience. Developing a solid grounding for good technique. Extensive knowledge of how to work with young players through the hot shots pathway. A good insight into psychology and techniques for managing the mental side of the game. Committed to continual learning and bouncing ideas off fellow coaches. Have trained and developed many young coaches.

Coaching style: My approach to tennis coaching is to create a fun yet structured lesson while focusing on the key fundamentals of tennis. I believe when building anything you must first start with a solid foundation and I think this is particularly relevant when establishing the fundamentals of tennis for children and adults.

Experience: I have been around tennis all my life as a player and joined Shaw park tennis gear at the start of 2019.

Key attributes: Passion for teaching and helping players with tangible progression. Creating specific lessons to target each player’s individual goals. Bringing 100% energy , positivity and enthusiasm to every lesson.

Experience: I have been a tennis coach for about 9 years with extensive experience in beginner and intermediate levels of all ages. I have been coaching in tennis gear for 3 years.

Qualifications: I got a bachelor degree  as a professional in sport sciences in 2014 back in Colombia where I originally come from, I got a certificate IV in sport coaching with emphasis in tennis at Ace Academy in Gold Coast and currently  I study Diploma in sport too.

Coaching style : Whether it is to focus on the technical, tactical, physical, or playful aspects of tennis,  my goal is to adapt my coaching style based on the needs of my players and deliver a personalized experience. The most important thing is that players find it beneficial and are satisfied with the sessions offered. 

Experiences : I have 24 years of experience as a player and 7 years as a coach. I've had the  opportunity to participate in several international tournaments and some major national  tournaments such as Roland Garros. I also spent 2 years at an American university playing for their  team. I've coached all levels and all age groups and was formerly an elementary school teacher for 2  years. 

Key attributes : My experience as a player has allowed me to acquire in-depth knowledge, whether  it's in terms of technique or tactics. Furthermore, my ongoing journey as an athlete has enabled me  to develop a profound understanding of anatomy and biomechanics. Driven by my passion for the  world of sports, I've also become a nutrition enthusiast. Additionally, my background as an  elementary school teacher has equipped me with strong pedagogical and didactic skills. All these  elements enable me to assist my players in their development and improvement across these various  domains. 

Qualification : Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Sports Sciences. 1 year of training in  adapted physical activity (Mental and physical disability). Acquiring the sports coach license. Master's  degree in Teaching, Education, and Training Professions.

Genevieve Knight

Coaching Style: My tennis lessons are based on the fundamentals of tennis. I create a positive, fun environment for the students. I believe the students develop not only technical skills but social and leadership skills, which are all important.

Experience: Started employment here at TennisGear at the back end of 2018, coaching hot shots programs primarily through schools. Prior to this, I was as a tennis coach at Wayne Hampson tennis coaching for a period of 5 years, throughout primary and secondary schools. I have also worked at Fancutts Tennis centre as a coach for 8 years.

Javier Ortiz

Coaching style: My style is to help reach and experience the full potential of the player. I always believe in the player to improve their performance, ability, skills as a tennis athlete. Competition and confidence on the court are the pillars of competitiveness. I challenge my students to strive for improvement in areas, rather than a "win at all costs" philosophy.

Experience: My tennis career began at 12 years old. I had 2 coaches in which allowed me to have more experience on the court. My personal trainer used many methods which led to a stronger progression. I have the experience of working as a team, being able to diagnose the missing links within someone's body movement and make the necessary mechanical or fundamental corrections. I played several tournaments at the national level of my country, as well as with the university traveling to different cities. I always say that defeats, are the victories on the way to the top.

Key Attributes: I have always believed that discipline is the key to success. Passion, being positive and being able to say that you can always do it, is the daily fuel to achieve anything in life. Fun and knowledge are always united in having a great athlete.

Qualifications: A physical education teacher. Personal trainer. Also currently studying to better my skills on the tennis court.

Coaching Style: I like to have a mix of fun and self-discipline when coaching so the children enjoy learning in a happy environment. I want them to enjoy learning all tennis skills so they become the best players they can be. As well as becoming the best person they can be on and off the court.

Experience: I began playing tennis when I was 9 years old and soon after began playing in junior ranking tournaments and Superleague.  I’m proud to have been working for TennisGear since 2018. Working with the team at TennisGear has provided me an opportunity to learn from some of the best coaches in Brisbane and share those skills with my students.

Key Attributes: I have12 years playing experience, I like to have fun, enjoy a joke and am committed to ensuring each player reaches their personal goals.

Michael Morton

Coaching Style: My belief in coaching is to teach young children to learn and enjoy the game. I enjoy doing this by making sure my lessons are fun and entertaining as well as teaching them the fundamentals of tennis in order to develop their game to the best of their ability.

Experience: Michael joined TennisGear in November 2016. He previously worked at Slice tennis and since joining TennisGear, has become an integral part of the Shaw Park coaching team. Michael has a decent playing background and still enjoys playing fixture tennis in Super Reserve.

Key Attributes: 5 years tournament playing experience. Lead coach at Virginia SS

Coaching Style: My coaching approach is rooted in creating a dynamic and supportive learning environment. I emphasize the importance of mastering fundamental techniques while fostering a love for the game. With a focus on individualized attention, I tailor my coaching to cater to each athlete's unique strengths and areas for improvement.  I am passionate about instilling values of discipline, resilience, and hardwork. Through a balance of encouragement and constructive feedback, I aim to empower my athletes not only as players but as individuals who embrace challenges with a positive mindset.
 
Experience: I have been involved with tennis for 25 years, first as a junior player and then moving into coaching. I first started coaching for TennisGear 18 years ago. In my time with TennisGear I have working with players of all ages and abilities. 
 
 I have also been fortunate enough to coach and travel internationally with 2 Top 50 ATP players.
 
Qualifications: TCA Junior Development Coach, Tennis Australia Club Professional Coach, Tennis Australia Wheelchair Development Coach, Cert III & IV in Fitness, Cert IV in Sports Coaching.
Damien Roberts

Coaching style: I am passionate about maximising every player's potential.  Giving them the best opportunity to improve themselves both as a player and a person.  More recently I am passionate about growing the game of tennis and passing on my coaching knowledge and experience to the TennisGear coaching team.  

Experience:  A former South African, Damien lived and worked in the UK where he was the LTA Great Britain’s National Women’s Coach from 2007-2013 This role has seen him work closely with Great Britain’s Federation Cup team and players like Laura Robson (Career-high WTA rank #27) and Heather Watson (current WTA rank #38.  As a player, Damien reached an ATP rank of #273 in singles and #152 in doubles before progressing into coaching on the ATP tour working with players including Wesley Moodie (ATP Singles ranking #70 and Wimbledon Doubles Champion), John Laffnie De Jager (ATP Doubles #20), Robbie Koenig (ATP Doubles #30), Chris Haggard and Jeff Coetzee (ATP Doubles rankings of #30). More recently Damien has been TennisGears' Coach and Development Manager since 2017

Key attributes: An enthusiastic and experienced tennis professional, adopting a motivated and positive approach to all tasks. . Key assets are the ability to communicate with people and colleagues at all levels, organize and manage tennis center programs and personnel.  A loyal, determined and results oriented person.

Coaching Style: Going back to my very own training days as a junior, I will always remember the amount of passion my coach would bring into every session. It didn’t matter if we were doing practice matches, drilling, or physical work, every session would always involve an element of fun and passion. This is what I believe gets the most out of a student. Key factors are discipline, fun, passion, persistence and hard work.

Experience: I joined the Roy Emerson Tennis Centre at the start of Term 1 in 2015. Here, my primary role is looking after the Development Squads, privates, and hot shots lessons. Prior to Emerson, I was coaching under Clint Fyfe at the Kawana Tennis Club, working with some of QLD’s top juniors. My role there was working closely with the under 12’s, 14’s juniors, and the high-performance program. We also took the players on tournament trips. Prior to working in Kawana, I was based in Florida from 2012 to 2014 at the Cliff Drysdale Tennis Club. My roles included running the Performance Program and also the adult program, which involved social tennis and coaching Floridas ladies tennis team circuit. While coaching in Florida I also coached the high school Varsity team. Without a doubt, was the best experience in my life!

Key Attributes: I have 10 years of coaching experience, some of those years working with the top coaches in Qld and America.
