Shaw Park’s John Stoddart has been with us for over 2 years now. In that time he has had a major influence on our junior development players and our adult programs.
But how well do you really know John?
Did you know…..?
- John Stoddart qualified for the 1982 Australian Open Men’s Championships. He beat Wes Horskins in the first round and was beaten by Pat Cash (yes that one) in the second.
- John was ranked in the Men’s Top 20 in Australia
- John was ranked in the Men’s Top 300 in the world
- He qualified twice into the Brisbane Indoor Tournament in 1984 and 1985, beating Darren Cahill (Semi-finalist 1988 US Open and Runner-Up Australian Open Doubles 1989) in the Qualification finals. John lost the first round to Peter Flemming (John McEnroe’s doubles partner and 7 Grand Slam Doubles Champion) in the first round.
- John also coached the Chinese National Junior Team from 1993 to 1995.
- John was renowned for his powerful serve and big forehand.
- He played with a Rossignol F200 racquet.
